Khenpo
Thubten Karma
Khenpo Thubten Karma began his monastic journey in 1994 when he took his novice monk vows from Khenpo Paga. He immersed himself in the study of reading, writing, Tibetan calligraphy, grammar, poetry, and the use of ritual instruments. He also learned the Vajra Nyitham Ritual dance from various masters. From 1995 to 1998, he entered a traditional three-year and three-month retreat where he engaged in intensive practices of Mahamudra, the Six Yogas of Naropa, and rituals associated with White Tara, Vajravarahi, Vajrakilaya, and Amitabha under the spiritual guidance of a Retreat Master.
In 1998, Khenpo Thubten Karma enrolled in the Palpung Lungrig Jampal Ling Shedra, the Monastic College for Higher Buddhist Studies, where he pursued an in-depth study of Sutras, Tantras, and Buddhist philosophy for 10 years under the tutelage of various esteemed teachers and Khenpos. During his time at the Shedra, he was appointed as the discipline master in 2003, a role he held for one year. From 2007, he served as a Lopon, or teacher, for three years. He graduated from the Shedra in 2010, earning the title of Khenpo and receiving his Khenpo degree.
In 2012, he was appointed Khenpo in charge, overseeing the operations and curriculum of the Shedra. His deep understanding of religious rituals and texts led to his appointment as a teacher for Tulkus (reincarnated masters) in 2013.
Since 2020, Khenpo Thubten Karma has been reappointed as Khenpo in charge, continuing to supervise the curriculum and maintain discipline at the Shedra. His dedication and effective leadership have been instrumental in the continued success and development of the monastic college, where he remains committed to his responsibilities with diligence and efficiency.
