His Eminence
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche
Under the guidance of H.H. Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa, the Very Venerable Saljay Rinpoche, and Drupön Lama Tsultrim, Rinpoche received a thorough formal education. He also received teachings from the Nyingma lineage from his father, Tulku Ogyen Rinpoche, as well as from other renowned masters, including the Venerable Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche.
At the age of 13, he undertook a three-year retreat led by the Very Venerable Saljay Rinpoche at Palpung Sherab Ling Monastery. Upon completion of the retreat, H.H. Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa appointed him as the retreat master for the monastery’s monks and nuns. During H.H.’s absence, Rinpoche took on the spiritual responsibilities of the Palpung Sherab Ling Monastic Seat from 1994 to 1998.
From 2005 to 2010, Rinpoche led the full recitation of the Kangyur at Palpung Sherab Ling, receiving valuable instructions, initiations, and teachings from H.H. Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and H.E. Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche. These transmissions included the teachings of the “Five Treasures” or “Dzo Chen Nam Nga,” as well as the Shangpa Kagyu and Mahamudra traditions.
Later, he traveled around the world to teach and, in 2006, founded Tergar Monastery in Bodhgaya under the directives of H.H. Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa. This monastery now hosts several significant annual events of the Karma Kagyu lineage, such as the Kagyu Monlam and the Karma Kagyu Gunchoe.
In 2011, he embarked on a solitary wandering retreat, returning in 2015 after more than four years of meditation in the Himalayan mountains.
Currently, H.E. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche travels worldwide, teaching the “Joy of Living” and “The Path of Liberation” programs while overseeing the Palpung study and practice program “Discovering the Buddha Within” since 2020, at the request of his root teacher, H.H. the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
